The Cambodia Wildlife Series makes its return with a striking new design, this time featuring the majestic Indo-Chinese tiger. First introduced in 2022 as Cambodia’s first-ever legal tender bullion coin, the series’ 2023 release continues the tradition with another limited mintage, making it a wonderful addition for collectors and tiger enthusiasts alike.
Each coin is struck from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver and carries a legal tender value of 3,000 Riels, backed by the Kingdom of Cambodia. Issued in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality, these coins retain their original mint luster, though minor imperfections may be visible. To preserve their condition, each coin is shipped in a protective plastic capsule.
Obverse Design
The obverse depicts the iconic Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s world-famous temple complex and the largest religious monument in the world. Originally built as a Hindu temple, today it stands as a symbol of Cambodian culture and Buddhism. Surrounding inscriptions include “Kingdom of Cambodia”, the year of issue 2023, and the denomination “3,000 Riels.”
Reverse Design
The reverse showcases a detailed engraving of an Indo-Chinese tiger reclining peacefully amid the dense foliage of Cambodia’s forests. The inscriptions read “Lost Tigers of Cambodia” and “1 oz .999 Fine Silver.”
About the Indo-Chinese Tiger
Known scientifically as Panthera Tigris Corbetti, the Indo-Chinese tiger is native to Southeast Asia’s mountains, rainforests, and grasslands. Today, fewer than 400 individuals remain in the wild, making it one of the most endangered big cats on earth. With their classic orange coats, black stripes, and piercing light-yellow eyes, these nocturnal predators are superb hunters, preying on deer, boar, and macaques under the cover of night.
This second release in the Cambodia Wildlife Series not only captures the beauty of a rare predator but also raises awareness about its precarious survival. Whether for investment or collection, this coin is a tangible tribute to Cambodia’s wildlife heritage.
